Dent Repair Made Easy with Ding King

November 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Ding King seems to work great in this video review! There are a lot of dent repair kits on the market… Ding King is one of the first paintless dent repair tools I’ve seen that actually works. After watching several video reviews and reading consumer comments, this product will work but it has to be the right kind of dent and you have to have the patience to use it.  Take a look at the info I’ve found and decide for yourself if the Ding King is right for your situation.

How Ding King Actually Works

The kit comes with a glue gun and different sized dent pulling tabs. All you do is put glue on the tabs, put it on either sides of the dent and apply the power bridge then twist it until it pops.

So in this video 50% of the dent came out the very first try. You might have to try using it several times and it may not come out all the way.

Advantages

  • Ding King has a great reputation, has been around for 15 years in the automotive dent repair market and has its own training center for paintless dent removal.
  • You can purchase the tool for $20 at your local auto store or As Seen on TV store
  • You can save you up  $200- $500  to fix a dent
  • It removes hail damage from your vehicle
  • OEM paint finishes wont be affected by the specially formulated glue

Deciding whether to have you dent repaired professionally or not?

  • Keep in mind that there is a learning curve involved when using this tool. Success depends on your skill level using the product.
  • It takes patience and practice to find a method that’s right for you.
  • For certain dents you may need a lot of patience because you’ll have to try between 2-10 times to get the ding out.
  • It has to be a minor dent no larger than a grapefruit.
  • Can be used only cosmetic dent damage to a metal panel where there is NO crease.
  • It does not address scratches.
  • It’s a fairly good solution for dents that ONLY require pulling “back out”. This includes door and shopping cart dings you’d get in a parking lot.
  • It should not be used on re-painted cars.

Results that Can be Achieved

  • After using Ding King you still might be able to see the dents but they are greatly reduced.
  • I don’t think “good as new” will ever be achieved, but it definitely can reduce “ugly ding” to “little annoying ding”
  • It will pull out small to about 90% of perfection without damaging your paint.

Biggest Issues Consumers Have when Using Ding King

I know I’m bad at this… I love to start right into a project. Make sure you read the instruction on the box!

1. Help the glue to adhere to the Vehicle
As far as making it stick, clean the application area AND the pad with the supplied solution or rubbing alcohol. Allow the glue gun to heat completely before use. Apply glue to the pad and IMMEDIATELY place it on the dent, then allow it to dry for several minutes. This is very important.

If the weather is too hot the glue might not adhere properly. The instructions suggest you try pulling out the dent when its between 50-80 F in the shade.

2. Prevent the metal from being pulled out too far
You’ve got to practice so that you get a feel for the right torque before releasing the bond. You want it tight enough so that the metal is pulled out, but not so much that you pull the metal out too far.

3. Getting the wax off your car
I’ve heard that wax removal should be easy if follow these simple rules. If the glue sticks to your car and is a pain to get off, that means you cleaned the metal well. But removal IS VERY EASY. Just soak a rag sufficiently in the solution (or diluted rubbing alcohol if you run out) so that you maintain a “wet edge” with the rag. No need to soak the whole thing– Just a spot large enough. Squeeze a little bit out of the rag onto the top of the glue spot. Begin to peel it off.

Ding King originally was made for auto technicians.  You can’t go wrong at least giving it a try for $20 if you can handle the extra time and effort involved. You can find them at your local auto parts store. Hope this post was helpful!  Please feel free to leave a comments below if you have any experiences with dent removal or handy tips and tricks.
