HD Vision Sunglasses vs Regular Sunglasses

April 13th, 2009 · No Comments

HD Vision Sunglasses bring flashbacks of the Blue Blocker eye wear from the 80’s. Even back then they wanted us to believe they were so cool looking. The makers of the HD Vision Sunglasses claim they have “modern European style” with “HD Technology”… hmmm I don’t know about that part. Even Lauren Keith from Heartland News admitted she had a little chuckle over the outlandish claims…

Lauren Keith asked a group of retirees for their opinion on the HD Vision Shades.

Advantages

  1. They really do cut down on the glare and have UV protection.
  2. Comfortable to wear and very light weight.
  3. Have more stylish beauty than other medical sunglasses.
  4. Fit right over your prescription glasses.
  5. Helps with eye strain even while working on the computer.
  6. They don’t look as bulky as other wraparound shades.
  7. The shades do fit right over their prescription lenses….as promised.
  8. An inexpensive alternative to spending money on prescription sunglasses.
  9. They don’t interfere with distinguishing traffic signals and lettering on road signs.
  10. Shields your eyes from the sun at every angle because the wraparound area of the glasses won’t let light in from the sides.
  11. Lauren mentioned that she picked them up at Walmart instead of ordering them online.

Disadvantages

  1. They don’t have the same effect as watching HD TV.
  2. HD Glasses ReviewThey are a cheap plastic and might not last you forever.
  3. Its one size fits all so depending on the size of your face you may find them too big for you.
  4. One report of peripheral vision being a problem while driving with these sunglasses.
  5. On a really bright sunny day I’ve heard that these lenses might not be enough to block out the light compared to regular sunglasses that would block enough light.
  6. They aren’t any better than a regular pair of sunglasses when comparing the visual clarity.

Optometrist Dr. Alan Branson gave the HD Vision Sunglasses thumbs up.
“People who have trouble with lighting outside usually have trouble with lighting anyway, and need extra help. That’s a good product. It does physically block the blue light out that causes the problem,” explains Dr. Branson.

HD Vision Sunglasses, I think it’s safe to say, are for someone who wants to fit them over your regular prescription glasses. Otherwise they you could just wear a regular pair of sunglasses.  The only advantages would be that it cuts glare from the side and it fits over your prescription glasses. In the video, all the seniors hands down loved the shades.
