Save A Blade promises to help us get a close, smooth shave without spending a ton of money on those expensive replacement blades. Let’s see if one blade can now give you a whopping 200 shaves! Now that would be impressive…That’s the promise from “Save-a-Blade.”
Save A Blade Claims
“The ingenious razor sharpener will give you up to 200 shaves from a single blade,”
“Just slide the razor inside, press the button and in seconds the blade is like new again.”
Personal Tests
- I’ve watched several different video reviews and they all seem to come up with the same results.
- In one test Rick and Debbie Brown tested Save A Blade for one month. Rick tested a disposable razor on the left side of his face and replaced it every time it got dull. On the right side of his face the Save A Blade was used and sharpened every day.
- Of course Debbie did the same thing but shaved both legs with the two different razors in the same manner.
- One month later Debbie couldn’t tell the difference between the two blades. Rick could tell a difference and he didn’t like it. He mentioned that “Once you sharpened Save-A-Blade it seemed to really decrease the sharpness of the blade as soon as you took a couple of strokes shaving your face.”
Save A Blade Lab Results
The infomercial boasts “Independent laboratory testing proved that after 200 shaves a razor sharpened with Save-a-Blade is virtually identical to a brand new blade.” That’s not what the lab tests showed on Fox 4 News.
They took Save-a-Blade to SMU’s school of mechanical engineering. They had them put the blades under the microscope for a closer look. They used a Schick Quattro during this test. With this particular brand of razor you’re suppose to take out the wires in between the razor before sharpening. I’m not sure why they didn’t just choose a regular razor other than Schick Quattro but I also saw another lab test with similar results.
- The edge had imperfections after sharpening with Save-A-Blade.
- If you take a close look at the sharpening device inside Save-a-Blade, it’s a piece of polishing paper that rotates around and gives a sharpening effect to the blade. It doesn’t really do much…you can even put your thumb in it and it doesn’t even hurt.
- One lab also put a brand new blade in Save-a-Blade and it actually made the blade duller.
Other Ways to Prolong the Life of Your Blades
I don’t know if you want to bother doing this but it’s actually been proven to prolong the life of blades. Water left on the blades actually dulls them because of corrosion.
After using your razor, completely dry your razor blade with a blow dryer. Store your razor blade in a plastic bag after it’s dry. Squeeze all the air out of the plastic bag and put the plastic bag containing your razor blade into the freezer. Freezing also stalls the corrosion process which will allow your razor blade to stay sharp.
Here’s another rather unusual way of keeping your blades sharp. It’s a razor pyramid secret. Read some of the comments…they are hilarious! I wouldn’t doubt one bit that this actually does work! Notice that he doesn’t say that it makes a dull blade sharp. He only claims that it prolongs the use of your razor blades.
Final Thoughts
Save a blade can be picked up at Walgreen’s for $20. The other thing too is that these tests were done actually sharping the blade every single day. I don’t think you’d have to do it that often which may alter the test results slightly.

Hey I actually have used the same blade cartridge of a Fusion Blade for a whole year using save a blade. Yes, a full year on 1 blade!! I’m not going to say that the blade was sharp as day 1, but it still shaved my face without pain. The only bad thing was that my strip inside the save a blade ripped out one day.
