Sham Wow Put Through the Deal or Dud Test

Sham Wow Does a so-so job

Sham Wow and Vince the ShamWow guy with his headphone. How can you ever get that image out of your head? You've seen him wielding his Sham Wow quickly and effortlessly through all those cola spills on counter tops and rugs and a pie pan full of water. Here's a video demonstration of four Sham Wow tests ending with "Pool Boy" armed with his swimming cap and Speedo. He takes an Olympic dip in a nearby pond and dries off his body in record time with the mighty Sham Wow.

Sham Wow Claim

"You'll say wow every time you use the Sham Wow."
The revolutionary fabric works wet or dry.
Acts like a vacuum to soak up spills.
Holds 20 times its weight in moisture.
The machine-washable rayon like textile wicks liquid and air-dries quickly for reuse, saving big bucks on paper towels.
You get 4 large and 4 small felt-textured cloths for $20

Pros

  • They're good for wiping off counter tops, washing dishes and absorbing minor wet messes.
  • The larger ones are a lot better quality, since they are thicker and can absorb more.
  • They do dry off a human body in record time - see pool boy at end of the video. :-)
  • Sham Wow does soak up and hold a whole bowl of liquid or large quantities of water as advertised.

Cons

  • They do not leave things perfectly dry by the mere touch of the Sham Wow to a wet surface. You've got to wipe the mess or apply a bit of pressure.
  • You can never seem to pick up the last bit of wetness and endlessly pushed it around to get the surface dry.
  • The smaller Sham Wows are thinner and not as durable as the larger ones.
  • They aren't any more absorbent than a regular dish towel.
  • The [tags]Sham Wow[/tags]material is a bit scratchy, is more like a shop towel and they dry really stiff.
  • They do not work wet.
  • They leave streaks and wetness on counter tops and dishes.

Sham Wow Test Results

Does Sham Wow Work?

Test 1 - Their first test was a mini Sham Wow on a wet table. Heather got her headset on to do her "Vince the Sham Wow guy" impression.  Heather gives the Sham Wow a good sweep on the table and assumed it would immediately pick all the liquid up.  It leaves a bit of Pepsi on the table but got the majority of liquid. Heather tends to be a pretty harsh judge though.

Test 2 - In the test Heather spills a can of Pepsi on a carpet and let it soak through. Using the big Sham Wow, Heather gets to work pummeling the carpet.  The soda on top of the carpet is gone. Underneath there's still some residual wetness.

Test 3 - Looks like they poured a whole can of soda in a bowel and Sham Wow did absorb the whole thing.

Test 4 - A soaking wet Pool Boy is wiped down in record time!

Sham Wow is put through four tests in this review.

Vehicle Test - I saw a video where they tested Sham Wow on a wet vehicle. The results?  Sham Wow seems to be no match for a dry terry towel or a chamois cloth. It tends to leave lint all over your vehicle and you'll need to go over it with your terry towel to get the spots that Sham Wow missed. Again the last remnants of moisture tend to get pushed around and you need a paper towel or terry towel to finish the job.

Sham Wow Drying a Sweater – When you roll up a wet sweater in Sham Wow it takes out the majority of water but of course you’ll still have to air dry it afterward. You get some lint from the Sham.

Sham Wow on Glass
- Tends to leave lint behind and again you have to use a paper towel to finish the job.

Sham Wow does work but you might need to keep a roll of paper towels or a teal towel on hand. Most consumers found they were disappointed in Sham Wow because of the fact that they want to use it to pick up larger spills off rugs or do the job its suppose to without having to use a paper towel.  If you're comparing it to a standard tea towel, it works and absorbs about the same. Sham Wow isn't a wow and not really a househould product you just have to have for your cleaning jobs.

Maybe the power lies in a specific brand of Madonna headset microphones? I like how scientific all of those tests were ;)

Oh yes very scientific! :-) They were more into the pool boy scene than anything else. Good for a laugh I guess.
