Listen Up promises that it will amplify sound so you can watch TV on a low volume, without disturbing others! All you have to do is turn up the sound on the ListenUp ear phones. It also claims to have another handy feature. Who wouldn't want to spy on the neighbors by listening in on secret conversations across the street. Watch this TV reporter as she puts her super spy skills to the test.
Listen Up comes with the following...
- A small base unit which includes an on/off wheel which also serves as volume control.
- A clip to attach the base unit to your pocket or belt.
- A standard pair of ear buds.
- One triple A battery is also included.
Some Issues
- The problem is that the microphone on the top of the unit is really quite sensitive. So any sounds originating very near the [tags]listen up[/tags]unit such as the a slight touch, breathing or coughing can be quite loud.
- It doesn’t filter out background noise it just amplifies them.
- It picks up ambient noise TOO well.
- It magnifies any sound of movement you make while wearing it.
- It doesn’t amplify anything more than three feet away from you. So if your sitting further than that from your TV than it won’t amplify it's sound.
- In order to hear music or the TV you need to turn up the TV volume to regular hearing levels. This kind of defeats the whole purpose of having this device because now the TV noise disturbs others.
- Some reports of hearing an annoying sound that hurts the ears.
- You can actually hear the TV better without using the product. This is because ListenUp slightly muffles the sound, amplifies other noises and there's also static from the device.
- If you did buy a Listen Up and decide to return it, the shipping and handling costs will be deducted form your original purchase and you won't get much of a refund.
One lady commented that
“I ordered this item thinking my husband could listen to the TV in bed at a low volume so as to not wake me up, but in order to hear the TV he had to turn it up and any noise in between him and the TV was amplified in his ears. Even the movement of sheets sounded horribly loud as well as the product itself when moved. I'm sending it back.”
Product Summary
Listen Up unfortunately doesn’t deliver on its promises. I’ve never seen so many angry comments about an infomercial product. There are people literally smashing the Listen Up device and shipping it back to the company. It would be nice to see these products succeed on the market. It's sad because it is a good concept but very poor execution of the final product. Want to see how another electronic product faired? Here's a My Lil Reminder review.

This is no better or worse than the old hearing aids that people would wear on their belt or pocket.
A condensor microphone with an amplifier circuit attached to a set of earphone.
The microphone technology has gotten better, but it is still pretty low quality.
