My Lil Reminder is a tiny, portable digital voice recorder.  It allows users to record a short voice recording to yourself so you can play it back later. It actually looks like such a clever little gadget.  I’m sure you can all remember this infomercial, where the lady is running around the parking lot trying to find her parked car.  For your entertainment I’ve added a  My Lil Reminder Spoof Video.

How Does My Lil Reminder Work?

Theproduct package includes two units. Each one comes with a battery already installed. In the battery compartment you need to first pull out a plastic strip which is covering the battery contact.  To use it you simply hold the red record button and you’ve got 20 seconds of speaking time. The instructions mention that its better to speak at least three inches away from the microphone. Just hit the play button if you want to play back the recording.

Pros

• The package comes with two units.
• Design is compact and light.
• It  comes with a built in LED light.
• It doubles as a key chain.
• Batteries already installed.
• Easy to use.
• The key chain ring is easily detachable.
• I do see some units now with 60 seconds of recording time although I’m not sure where to get these new units.

My Lil Reminder records a 20 second message

Cons

• Picks up background noise.
• Recorder only records one thing at a time.
• Deletes the last thing you record every time you press the record button. This is a problem because most people want to record one thing at a time and add them to a list. They found this unit useless for this reason alone.
• Easy to accidentally push the record button delete your message.
• Poor sound quality and users found it difficult to hear and understand their message.
• Only 20 seconds of recording time so you have to talk fast and your list must be extremely short.
• No volume control.
• I found online message boards filled with complaints from people who say they were drastically overcharged when ordering on the web or the phone. You can find it at Target if you really want to buy it.

Final Thoughts

My Lil Reminder is not a great product. Most users found this personal recorder totally useless. Some alternate solutions…Most cell phones have a recording option on it.  You can also buy a small recorder which can cost around $30 minimum. Too bad the quality of My Lil Reminder is so bad. It’s actually a great idea. Hopefully they will come out with a better version of this unit. I wouldn’t bother spending money on this product, even if you can get it at Target for $10. If it doesn’t tape multiple messages I don’t see the point in buying it.
