The Awesome Auger is a product that you’ve likely seen on television doing amazing things like tearing through dirt and digging holes like crazy. The Awesome Auger infomercial leaves yard buffs and gardeners salivating at the screen as the Awesome Auger powers through yard task after yard task.
Awesome Auger Claims
Made of solid steel
Dig holes, plant shrubs, trees and bushes with ease
Attach it to any size drill
Save money, energy, time and backaches
Blast through hard rock, clay or thick roots
Use it for….
Digging post holes
Planting trees, shrubs and bulbs
Removing weeds
Tilling and cultivating plants
There seems to be two types of Awesome Auger. The older model is the Awesome Auger without the drill. It’s just two augers – one three inch and the other four inch. Heartland News mentioned that you can buy it at your local Target store.
The newer Awesome Auger they say you can only buy it online. This one comes with the regular auger, a ground auger and a weed auger plus a bonus extender and free drill. (You don’t need the cheap free drill.)
First, you fasten the drill to the auger like a drill bit. When you’re ready, just stick the tip of the auger in the dirt and then slowly press the trigger. In the video Doug mentions you have to get the feel of it. You may need to start the drill even before you put it into the ground. Some drills with a cord may give you stronger power than a cordless drill although it’s a pain to drag around a cord while you’re doing your gardening.
Advantages
- After Doug replaced the Awesome Auger drill with his own, Doug is impressed with the how the Auger quickly drills a hole in the ground.
- It also works really well digging up hard clay, and dried up ground.
- Tree roots both pine and bigger ones are not a problem at all.
- He mentions that you could literally dig holes and plant 100 bulbs in 15 minutes.
Disadvantages
- The shipping charges from the main Awesome Auger site are outrageous. As Yvonne mentions the s/h charges for the drill and augers came to $37. I have heard that you can buy this product at your
local Target store without the drill for only $20. - Please don’t order this online since there are so many complaints about problems with orders and billing etc.
- The problem with getting the Awesome Auger in stores is that there are only the two drills without the extender.
- In the video Doug wasn’t so impressed with the free drill. The cheap drill that came with Awesome Auger, started to jam on only the second hole making it almost impossible to use.
- It didn’t do so well with weeds it basically just shredded them.
In the end, I was really surprised that Doug mentions that it would be quicker, easier and more efficient to use a shovel. I’m thinking he may have been referring to the weeds. He clearly was so impressed with the Auger.
Awesome Auger seems to work as advertised except for that power drill. The only problem is that there are major problems ordering it online. So your only option would be to buy it from Target and you can only get the two augers without the extender. Not sure why these companies don’t just send their products right to stores without selling them online! Save everyone all that grief. I wish i came across this article before i ordered, the cost was tremendous, you input your credit card info first and then you click for each item you want like extenders etc, wait next page, a drag, now you get to the last box before completion this is the 3rd party offer, if you open to read you stuck you cant go back, you have to check the box, or if you do like me say forget it the whole thing and close, you will recieve a charge to your account for 2 orders of the augers + s&H for each. I wish i went to the store.
