Engrave It is a pretty simple concept. The infomercial guru Billy Mays says, it's suppose to be a fast, easy way to protect your valuables by adding a permanent label to them. Let's see if it's any better than a regular electric engraver you can pick up at your local hardware store. It's kind of a sad statistic... Law enforcement professionals will tell you that 85% of the stuff stolen from your house, you'll never see again. By engraving the back you can easily identify your stolen goods at the police station. Watch Sheriff Newkirk put Engrave It to the test and hear what he has to say.

There's not much to this one...
- Engrave It claims that you can engrave anything on almost all surfaces including metal, wood, glass, plastic, leather and more
- Engrave It costs $10
- Comes with the [tags]Engrave-It[/tags]engraving tool and a replacement engraving tip
- Requires two double A batteries that aren't included
Sheriff's Advice About Engraving Goods
Newkirk says making sure you get a tool that works is imperative to getting stolen goods back, "If the criminal sees that they won't take it. We've had them leave TV's, we've had em leave VCR's and cameras behind because they know it's engraved they can't take it."
It's best to inscribe your driver's license number, since it always stays the same. If you do move out of state and get a new license, just draw a line through the old number and write the new one. Never put your social security on anything you own.
Engrave It Final Verdict
- Engrave it doesn't dig as deep or write as clear as the regular electric version that you can buy at any hardware store.
- The Engrave It slows down when you add pressure to it to make a deep etching. On the other hand, the electric version always applies a constant pressure with no effort with any item around the home.
- Engrave It can be easily transported because it's battery powered and light.
- Both Engrave It and the Electric Engraver cost the same - around $10.
Engrave It isn't any better than what's already out there on the market. Overall, both tools got the job done but the corded engraver does a better job. I guess if anything good came from the airing of this infomercial is that it reminded everyone to start engraving their belongings!
