Get a Grip Safety Handle - Does it Really Work?

June 3rd, 2009 · 1 Comment

Get a Grip was put to the ultimate test by KUTV News. They didn’t want to stick around the bathroom to try it on a bathtub or shower. They convinced the News Station intern to take it out on a boat, even doing a little wake boarding on it. Will it really provide support or just pop off the surface and to let you fall flat on your face?

The commercial says:

  • “OH NOOOO! OUCH!” As the guy slips and falls in the shower with a look of horror on his face. Solution? They need Get a Grip!
  • The remarkable new handle requires no installation and attaches in seconds, with no tools, to any smooth surface.
  • Just place the get a grip handle on any clean, smooth non porous surface, secure it and you’ve got an instant plastic handle.
  • It has suction cups on both ends of the handle and can be removed and secured to different non porous surfaces.

The Get a Grip Test

  1. First off it’s pretty easy to follow the directions and easy to open. You need to clean the surface of any soap residue, dirt or dust then dry it thoroughly.
  2. They first mounted the Get a Grip on the truck window. They then pushed the levers to activate the suction cups. Adam really put his weight into the handle to try and get it off the window. It wasn’t easy at all but it did finally come off. For the average user, the Get A Grip would never fall off getting in and out of the truck.
  3. Vanessa the intern, used the Get a Grips to tote the wake boards down to the boat. Neat idea!
  4. They also attached the Get a Grip to the end of the boat and it helped Vanessa escape from the frigid water.
  5. In another video review they attached it to the shower wall and it also held tight.

Disadvantages

The suction cups are quite large. If the sides of your tub are not flat enough or too narrow it won’t fit. You can compromise by putting it on the side of the tub.
Also the size of your bathtub and shower tiles are important. Both suction cups should not be over a groove in the tile. Otherwise it will fall right off.

Other Info

  1. I see that there are two styles of Get a Grip. There’s the one in the video clip that’s silver in color and the other that’s blue and white. If you can, specify the color you like. I’m sure this product is probably in stores that sell As Seen on TV household products. I’d check  Walgreens and Walmart. I heard it was $13 for one handle at Walgreens. Then you can save on postage of course and hopefully get the color you like.
  2. It’s quite odd that the Get a Grip instructions mention “Do not use Get a Grip to provide leverage, or stability, or to maintain balance while lifting yourself.” Well that’s exactly what they say the product does in their infomercial! Probably trying to cover their ass if any liabilities arise…

Get A Grip looks like it works in the tub, the shower and even on a truck or boat. Even with excess force applied. So in my opinion it looks like it’s a deal. Anyone have good or bad experience from this product? I’d love to hear from you.
