Package Shark Pro Tested on Thick Plastic Packages

November 4th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Package Shark Pro claims to help open those dreaded clam shell packages with ease.  So something that can help us with this task sure is worth having a look. Ironically the Package Shark itself comes tightly sealed inside a clam shell package. Arrrrrghhh!

Package Shark Claims

  • It’s essentially a razor blade that has an adjustable channel so it fits to different sized packages.
  • Opens all those hard to open plastic packages with ease.
  • Three settings for different size packages.
  • Cuts through packaging including cosmetics, toys, batteries, electronics.
  • Includes bonus cordless electric power scissors. Scissors use 2 AA batteries (not included.)

How Does it Actually Work?

In the video above, you can see that it’s not that easy to use. You’re very limited to what you can use it on since it mostly only works on packages with a flat edge. This is because the safety feature gets in the way of the product functioning correctly. The cutting well needs to be deeper to cut most clam shell packaging.  It doesn’t allow you to slice too much of the plastic off which creates dangerous plastic slivers!

Package Shark Pro requires so much effort and manipulation to open anything. So it kind of defeats the purpose of using it in the first place. It’s kind of interesting how the product promoters are always so concerned about adding bonuses yet they forget about quality of the original product. There are definitely better houseware tools out on the market to do the job more efficiently.

You probably already have a clam shell package opener in your kitchen drawer. It’s the basic hand held can opener, the kind that you hold the pliers type handles with one hand and turn the key with the other hand. It works just fine for opening clam shell packs. Don’t waste your money on a gadget that doesn’t work as well.
