See if Microwaving Pasta Works With Fasta Pasta

March 15th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Fasta Pasta is a microwavable pasta maker that promises to save you time and possibly half a dozen trips to the kitchen checking if your pasta is properly boiling or almost done. This is my number one pet peeve of cooking pasta! It consists of a bottom plastic cooker and a lid for straining the pasta. There’s also detailed cooking instructions so you know the exact amount of water and time it takes to cook each type of pasta. No guess work involved here. Does it really allow you to cook pasta to perfection in the microwave?

The infomercial says, “Just place the pasta in the Fasta Pasta. Fill water to water level, use cooking guide to set the time and pasta cooks perfectly in minutes.”

Good Points of Fasta Pasta

  • You don’t have to monitor to see if your pasta is done.
  • Detailed cooking instructions for all types of pasta.
  • Handy measuring holes for precise amount of pasta  per person.
  • Cooks pasta faster than on the burner.
  • Easier to rinse and drain since there’s a built in strainer on the lid.
  • Pasta doesn’t get torn up like it does sometimes in a boiling pot of water.
  • This is the Fasta Pasta gourmet cookbookPasta texture comes out el dente (perfectly cooked and not to hard)
  • Easy for kids to make a pasta meal on their own.
  • Strain and then mix pasta with sauce or cheese inside the Fasta Pasta then clean up is easy.
  • Will not boil over in microwave.
  • Pasta cooks evenly without sticking.
  • Dishwasher safe.
  • No need to stop the microwave to stir the pasta.
  • Made of FDA approved polypropylene.
  • There’s also a Fasta Pasta gourmet cookbook specifically for Fasta Pasta cooking - it’s an extra $9.00.

Negative Points

  • It does say right on the box “FDA approved for microwave use.” Doreen didn’t like the idea of cooking with plastic in the microwave and I don’t blame her.  Guess she doesn’t trust that FDA approval…
  • It only holds enough pasta for a family of four.
  • If you have a small microwave, the space is too small inside for it to make a full revolution. You can take out the rotating plate though and it still cooks fine.
  • The cooking times are not the same for everyone. Depending on where you live you’ll have different elevation levels that produce slightly different cooking results.

Fasta Pasta looks like it’s a big hit! I don’t believe it…so good to see an As Seen on TV product work exactly as advertised. On the other hand, Donut Express just didn’t make the grade. You’re supposed to be able to bake donuts instead of fry them. They end up coming out like cupcakes though.

I love this cooker too! And the fact that it’s made in the USA makes it even better. Their website (www.fastapastacooker.com) says that the inventor will only have it manufactured in the US so he can control the materials going into it- with all of the news coming out of China lately and their recalls, I think I’d rather stick with an American made product than one of those coming out of China! It’s fast, saves water & time- what’s not to like?
