The Grater Plater was featured on the Pitchmen Show back in July. I never actually saw that episode but I guess both Billy and Sully had a head to head competition trying to outperform each other for ratings. No surprise that loud mouth Billy won. I'm wondering, is it really all that revolutionary of an invention to have made it on the show. I'm sure I've seen similar products already on the market. Anyways, the makers claim that its an innovative grater system that lets you grate and serve things like garlic and cheese all in the same dish.
Grater Plater Claims
Purees garlic quickly and easily with a few strokes of the hand.
Can also be used for grating up ginger, nutmeg, shallots, nuts, chocolate, hard cheeses, fruits and vegetables or for zesting citrus.
The peeler can be used to easily peel garlic cloves without a knife.
The brush is used to move the pureed garlic into the center of the grater, to easily remove it.
Each set includes:
Ceramic Grater Plate (5 1/4" round)
Silicone Garlic Peeler
Brush is used to scrape the grated foods out from grater area of the plate.
Pros
- Made of tempered ceramic that never dulls and is also dishwasher safe.
- Wont scrape your knuckles even though the grater is sharp.
- You can use all of a garlic clove with less waste as opposed to using a standard garlic press.
- It comes out more as a paste or puree and you won't have little chunks of strong garlic. This also helps to blend with your cooking and with oils.
- Grated food has much more fragrance and flavor.
- The little brush also helps gather ever bit of the puree so again nothing is wasted.
- Can easily be cleaned in the dishwasher.
- It works well with garlic, ginger, chocolate and cheese, carrots.
- Easy cleanup and no mess involved unlike a garlic press.
Puree garlic with the Grater Plater
Cons
- As demonstrated in the video, no matter what pressure you apply you won't be able to grate lemons and oranges for zest.
- Really hard stuff like cinnamon stick doesn't grate well either.
- They also claim that you can use it on nuts. I actually haven't seen this demonstrated but I think it would be very slow going trying to hold onto and scrape nuts on that grater. Maybe if you wanted very small quantities it might be worth it.

The Grater Plater for $10 is a pretty good deal. I could see how you could save by not having to buy prepared garlic, ginger root or grated cheese from the store. You can that that all yourself and create more flavor in your dishes. By the way, if you have problems cooking up eggs exactly how you like em you may have seen the Egg Genie! They just think of everything these days.
