In this [tags]snap and slice[/tags]video above, they put this slicer through a few tests. Here are the results...
For all fruits and vegetables -The ladies found that they still had to use a knife and cutting board for most of the items.
Cucumber - You have to cut it to make it fit into the slicer. Once cut down into smaller pieces, the cucumbers were a snap to chop up.
Hard boiled eggs - You can do better slicing up an egg with a good old-fashioned knife.
Fruit - Again you have to cut the items down to size before using the Snap n Slice. Also if the core is left in the apple the device will not work.
Tomatoes - Only smaller tomatoes can be chopped in the slicer. The larger ones get all mushy.
Potatoes and carrots - You have to parboil them before putting them through the slicer.
Pros
- Quality construction
- Attractive design
- Compact and convenient
- Easy to use and wash up
- Saves you time cutting up only certain fruits and vegetables
- Comes with a handy little holder so you can keep it on your counter top
Cons
- Completely mushes up tomatoes unless they are a smaller size.
- You'll need super strength to cut through onions and other hard vegetables.
- Not so great for elderly people that don't have strength in their hands.
- You still need to dirty up your counter top or cutting board.
- The surface area of the cutting blades is quite small so you'll have to chop up food into smaller pieces.
Snap and Slice in Review - I guess the device isn't all it’s snapped and sliced up to be. For $29.90 the ladies mentioned that they wouldn't buy it. When I watched the original infomercial and realized it’s actually quite a clever idea but I stopped myself from whipping out the ol credit card. I thought it would be great in the summer when you want to make a fruit salad. Having to parboil your potatoes and carrots first would be a major pain in the butt though.
