Placed a cast iron dutch oven in 540F heat for a total of 1.5 hours and lifted the lid.
Held it over the fire for 10-15 seconds.
Splashed it with a variety of foods then threw it in the wash.
The Results
- Removing dutch oven - Did not scorch the Ove Glove after holding it for 15 seconds although the pot holder did get scorched and a bit melted.
- Holding it over a flame - After one minute Ove Glove didn't ignite but the mitt started to flame after 30 seconds.
- Washing - Stains were removed from the glove. Although other consumers found that stains stayed after washing the glove.
Pros
- You can use it for the kitchen as well as for a variety of tasks around the home including barbecuing, rearrange fireplace logs car repair, welding and changing light bulbs.
- You get a real good grip on items instead of using clumsy oven mittens.
Cons
- Unlike long oven mitts your wrists aren't protected so you may burn your wrist or forearm on the oven racks.
- Since vapor and liquid can penetrate through the glove, you can still get burned this way. Also water on the glove acts as a heat conductor so this can be hazardous.
- After a good washing, the Ove Glove still retains some stains.
