Vidalia Slice Wizard is one of the original vegetable slicers I picked up a couple years back at a Home Show here in Calgary. It’s exactly the same product but they call it the V-Slice. Even there they were telling us you can’t buy it in stores. Only during the Home Show! Clever marketing technique I guess. To be honest it’s still sitting in my cupboard and I hardly ever used it only because I prepare meals only for myself. It’s actually nice that I saw a demonstration on how to use it. It’s a bit tricky at first and takes some practice. It’s a fruit and vegetable slicer that has interchangeable blades so can slice, dice, chop, mince, and julienne. Which I originally thought was kind of handy since it’s like 7 kitchen tools in one.
The Vidalia Slice Wizard Comes With the Following
A cutting blade for slicing plus five inserts. Just choose the correct blade attachment and slide it into the wizard. Put food into the safety dispenser and you’re ready. It also has a blade holder for handy storage.
Advantages
- Slices very quickly.
- It slices both thick and thin.
- Great if you tear up slicing onions.
- Great time saver for a family meal preparation.
- It’s very easy to clean and store.
- If you like to prepare nice looking meals for guests you can doing fancy food prep and have it looking evenly sliced and diced.
- You don’t have to buy it online. It’s in stores. They mentioned it’s at “Target” in the video.
Disadvantages
There’s a lot of parts with some confusing instructions.- You’ll have to hand wash it but it’s very easy to clean.
- Some of the vegetable slices don’t make it all the way through.
- Doesn’t work on less sturdy cheese or vegetables. Softer tomatoes are the worst!
- You have to apply the right amount of pressure to get just the right cut.
- Not as necessary for a singles or a couple who aren’t as fussy how there vegetables are cut. It’s easier just to use a knife for that small quantity of food.
Handy Hints
In order to prevent your food from getting stuck in the blade you have to keep slicing it up and down the blade in one continuous motion.
Don’t slice the onions right down to the ends like the lady in video 2 below. That’s where all the strong onion smell comes from and you’ll tear up. Just throw the onion ends out.
Results from Video 1
Worked great on the cucumber, onion, apple, harder type of cheese, and a potato.
The lady gave it a 4 out of 5 score
Results from Video 2
Now here’s a completely different result from another news station. The lady here didn’t like it and gave it a score of 2!
This lady struggled with the smaller or thin vegetables like radishes, and carrots and found they got caught up in the blade. It didn’t look like she was using a continuously back and forth movement.
The tomato that she was trying to cut up for salsa came out all mushy. The cheese she was using was softer than the first demonstration video. So it doesn’t work as well on softer cheese.
Vidalia Slice Wizard is a good buy just from first hand experience. It’s been selling in Europe for years and is a top seller there. So you can’t go wrong for $15, if you’re cooking for your family and need a fast way to prepare food. Although again, I don’t use it to prepare a meal for myself. There’s other slicers on the market…here’s the Snap and Slice review.
