Stick Up Bulbs Work But Have a Couple of Issues

November 11th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Stick Up Bulbs are a wireless light bulb that can be used in any room where you don’t have a ceiling light. This can be useful and a less expensive alternative to rewiring an older house in order to put a light fixture in a room or closet.

Some issues with Stick Up Bulbs

  • The Stick Up Bulb is probably equivalent to a 25 watt bulb. If you put it into a smaller area like a closet, you can light up you’re surroundings just enough to see your clothes.
  • You’ll go through many batteries. If you left the light on continuously the battery life lasts around two hours. If you shut the light off between uses the battery life lasts only a couple of weeks. It’s much less costly to use rechargeable batteries.
  • The light bulbs don’t last long and they are special bulbs that you can only replace from the company.
  • Once the light bulb goes some feel that it’s almost not worth it to pay $6 s/h for the 3 replacement bulbs the company offers. You can buy another Stick Up Bulb unit for $10.

Stick Up Bulb is a great concept but for $10 I guess I wouldn’t expect a this to be a high quality household gadget. You can pick one up at Bed Bath and Beyond for $10 bucks! Here’s another As Seen on TV item called Handy Switch.

We have an older home with large closets but no lighting. The previous owners installed a similar bulb in on of the closets and it is great.

I think our light must be a different brand or older model because the base is white plastic and mounted with screws. This is more practical on our wooden walls where adhesive either does not stick or removes the finish - sometimes both.

The great thing about our light is the bulb - very little heat is emitted. Again, a plus in a wooden walled closet filled with flammable materials such as clothing and a few boxes. However, if you are trying to light a room, the bulb would not provide enough light.

What you have could actually be an older version of the Stick Up Bulb. The package also includes screws if you need them. Good to hear that it’s still working ok for you. It seems like a lot of folks find that they need to replace the bulbs often.
