The Snuggie is the Best Christmas Gift Ever!

by Theresa on November 27, 2008 · 5 comments

I saw this funny commercial a while back. This must be the greatest product ever made! It's a blanket with sleeves... no wait...it’s a bathrobe worn backwards!  You see, blankets are extremely inconvenient and you tend to get your hands caught inside. Dooh! I hate it when that happens. I couldn’t stop laughing when I first saw the ad on TV. Later I found a few spoof Snuggie commercials and pics.  Hmmm  I think this may be a good candidate for my infomercial humor section.

You originally might just think that the Snuggie is just a spoof infomercial. I hate to tell you this but it's actually a real product sold at www.FreeSnuggie.com and also at www.getsnuggie.com. Please check this blog post if your looking for a a real slanket vs snuggie review.

The Snuggie is the imposter! The original product was the Slanket!

We seem to have an imposter here because I noticed that the Snuggie's creator has stolen the idea from the Slanket creator.  Gary Clegg promoted the Slanket on QVC first. Gary you're getting ripped off buddy!

Guys look soo hot in a Slanket..especially green ones!

Gary Clegg is the original inventor of the Slanket... Here's his story.

The Slanket was started by Gary Clegg in Maine in 2006. Gary Clegg got the idea of the Slanket one night while he was in college. While watching late night television he needed to tear a whole in his blanket so that he could get the remote with his arms. When he went home for Christmas vacation he asked his mother to make him a giant blanket that had a hole for the remote control.

Features they advertise on the Snuggie site

  • Oversized sleeves – Thank you for mentioning… I did not notice.
  • Hands Free – Wow this is a very cool feature.
  • Super Large – yess it sure is! I love to look like a giant burgundy blob while I sit on my couch.
  • Perfect for outdoor events – Uhhh really? I cant wait to look like an idiot at the next outdoor sporting event.
  • I’m glad that they told me it was one-size fits all because I almost thought that the size might not fit perfectly tight around the waist.
You can wear a burgundy Slanket at the game too!

The burgundy color will look so good on you too! How can you resist buying a Slanket?
Ahhh heck, if you're only going to wear it at home why not. Just please for the love of god don't leave the house with it on!

Snuggie Parodies

YouTube Preview Image

Looks like youtube has tons of Snuggie parodies! A lot more than when I looked in November.  Most of them aren't so humorous. This one is pretty good. And NOW.... INTRODUCING...the ShamSnuggie!

YouTube Preview Image

The most popular and one of the very first Snuggie parodies was the Cult of Snuggie.

Video Highlights

  • Now you can get your hands out to use your remote, or eat a snack.
  • You can use it outdoors while roasting marshmallows with your snuggie cult.
  • Fabulous burgundy color is extremely attractive. It's also available in three other hideous colors.
  • Why don't they show you how the back fastens. It looks like your back and butt would be exposed to that chilly air. Oooh noo!
  • You get 2 Snuggies and 2 book lights for $20.... hurry buy one!
  • Similar products cost up to $60. Really? There are similar products?
  • A super high-tech press and open book light that you will love.

What a great intro and fantastic product branding

You wanna keep warm when you're feeling chilled,
But you don't wanna raise your heating bill.
Blankets are okay but they slip and slide,
And when you need to reach for something your hands are trapped inside.

Here's a Snuggie update...unfortunately I have bad news for my fellow cult members. According to the snuggie site, there is a limit of 6 blankets total per order. Damn it!

Funny commercials can be found in this section of my site. Want to check out one more [tags]funny commercials[/tags]? Check out an old commercial in this category. It's old but its hilarious! I'll definitely be on the look out for more...

I feel bad that I have this product in the infomercial humour section. I realize now that some of you are buying a Snuggie for Christmas.

I have heard from a few of my readers that they are having problems with a shipment of there Snuggie. I have just called their toll free number below. They mentioned in their phone message that you won’t be billed until your order is shipped. They are waiting 2-4 weeks for a new shipment to come in. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Theresa Kruger (admin)

My husband ordered 2 orders of Snuggies plus paid shipping to get 1 free for each) over 2 months ago. They finally came–the wrong color! We’re going to return them and hope that you have the colors we ordered, but it was a big disappointment becuase it was a Christmas present. If we get them at all , it’ll be in February.

Hello Carolyn, Thank you so much for your comments. I’m really sorry to hear about the mix up. I personally can’t understand how they can screw up a very simple order. On top of that they take two months to deliver it. It’s really unbelievable isn’t it. Two months ago you’d think they’d already have lots of product to ship out.

I have heard a lot of complaints about Snuggies which is why I phoned up the companies toll free number to find out what was going on.

Please note, that I only do independent reviews on products seen on TV. I don’t have any affiliation with these companies nor do I sell their product.

I forgot to mention in my last comment that there are a different places online to buy the Snuggie. So if anyone else is having problems you can call the number below. Is anyone getting through to a live person there… that’s what I’d like to know.

If you saw the ad on TV I believe its this company here. This is the main Snuggies company for the States. They also ship to Canada as well.

the number is 1-800-566-2888

Snuggies
P.O. Box 3179 Wallingford, CT 06494
Website address is getsnuggie.com
Customer service is available Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 8:00pm Eastern Time.
They have a recorded message at first. You can talk to a real person there as well.

I haven’t seen this ad in Canada but the main site for Canada is here.
the number is 1-866-430-8155

Snuggies Canada
Snuggie 7777 Keele St., Unit 8 PO Box 79026 Concord, ON L4K 1Y7
Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm Eastern Time

You can also get Snuggies off the online “As Seen on TV” site but they aren’t the ones advertising on TV so I’m pretty sure it must be the company from Conneticut that you’d need to phone

It is at asseenontv.com
There number is 1-800-866-277-3366

Anyone else having a problem with their order? Would love to hear from you too. Thank you!

You say the guy in the green is in a snuggie, but he is in a slanket. The snuggie copied the slanket but I think it is smaller and more cheaply made. Slanket rules!

Thank you Willis!

OMG I’m kind of embarassed about that…At the time I think my mind was thinking Slanket but I typed in Snuggie. Darn it!! I may have got caught up in the humour of the story and I didn’t double everything thoroughly before hitting that publish button. RRRRR Well I will definitely learn from this mistake for sure…

Hey I agree with you on rooting for Gary Clegg and his Slanket. He seems like a really down to earth guy. But I know he did really well with his company in previous years.. and he was sold out of Slankets at Christmas time. I think he should try sueing that darn Snuggie company. Stealing his idea like that… :-) Then he might have to go after the Nuddle Blanket lady and every other knock off Slanket product. Ooh this might get kinda messy!

BTW I added a new Snuggie Parody video called the ShamSnuggie… pretty funny!! I also added more detail on my other more serious review…the snuggie vs slanket post. Hopefully that will clear up some confusion!
