Who can forget the Girls Gone Wild infomercials on late night TV? With Spring Break fast approaching many students are thinking of spending their holidays overcrowded beaches filled with intoxicated, half-naked undergrads. For the rest of us, the usual holiday haunts such as Miami, Daytona Beach and Cancun are out of the question! I don’t want to see another drunken, out-of-control co-ed! Here’s a video dedicated to all modest girls everywhere. This video is a spoof of the Girls Gone Wild series, entitled Girls Gone Mild.
Just out of curiosity, I had to check out the news on what happened to the founder of Girls Gone Wild, Joe Francis. He spent one year behind bars in the the Washoe County jail in Reno, Nevada. As you all know he was arrested after one of his crew filmed an underage girl during a video shoot during the 2003 Panama City spring break.
The Modesty Movement
While skimpy clothes still dominating the fashion scene, can you believe that there is an actual Girls Gone Mild modesty movement going on? It’s mostly the young girls themselves that are the ones leading it.
A design company called Shade, is pulling in $8 million a year selling its line of modest clothing. Shade clothing is the brainchild of two Mormon women looking to respect their faith without compromising their fashion sense.
Wendy Shalit even has a new book out called Girls Gone Mild. It reports from the movement headed by teenage girls who want to make modesty cool again. In the late 90s Shalit’s calls to women to cover up, hold back and wait until marriage were painted as anti-feminist. But almost ten years later, our culture has changed! In the time when the Pussycat Dolls are painted as the model of female empowerment and Bratz dolls encourage two year-olds to wear thongs (okay, maybe an exaggeration), could it be that a little Shalit style modesty wouldn’t hurt us?
So how do you go from wild to mild? Here are a few ideas from the Shade Mormon Clothing Line…
From This….
To This!
Girls Gone Mild is now a growing movement so say say goodbye to those racey Girls Gone Wild infomercials! And now for another infomercial spoof video, check out the coolest product ever….the Flowbee!
