Why are old TV commercials so much fun to watch? It's so amazing to see how simple life used to be. The general public had to be shown how electricity could be used with new appliances that had come out on the market. I am captivated at how life was back in the 1930s and especially how women were viewed only in a homemaker’s role. Unbelievably that was only 70 years ago. Look how far technology has come!
Highlights of this old TV commercial I find fascinating!
- The lady wakes up in the morning with her hair so perfectly done up to demonstrate how to boil a cup of tea.
- You can cook your toast at the table and maybe your husband will even offer you a piece? Hmmmm interesting.
- The electric refrigerator in the kitchen is waiting to help you with your food problems. It can provide you such luxuries as ice cream.
- The electric cooker (the stove) provides cleanliness, quickness and economy. Interesting choice of words!
- The electronic waffle grill is growing in favor everyday…
- And when there’s large washing up to do after a large family meal, your blessed with this latest type washing up machine (as they demonstrate the dishwasher)
- And for the more tiresome tasks madam, such as the washing of clothes you can avoid black Monday with a ringer washer! Yikes sounds scary!
- Women had to put their clean wet clothes in a drying cupboard first and then iron them. That sounds like way to much work!
- The air conditioner manufactures just the right weather that you like best! But apparently only for your husband and not for the lady. Hmmm. No there’s nothing male chauvinistic at all in this infomercial.
- Radio artists come to life in your own home by the aid of electricity’s newest invention…the Tele- Vision.
- Or if you wish to be beautiful the electric massage device will help you to achieve the desired effect.
- The hot water heater is attached precariously above the tub as the woman takes a bath. Guess they hadn’t invented hot water pipes yet?
- No more heating your crimping iron over the bedroom candle. Hooray for electricity!!
Old TV commercials are hard to come by, but I will be putting some more up on my blog REAL soon. I'm also a big fan of funny commercials ridiculous infomerical products, so I'll have a mixture of both [tags]old-tv-commercials, funny-commercials[/tags] in this infomercial humor area of my site. That was awesome. I remember my Grandmother using a wringer washing machine.
Isn’t that a classic? Actually my mom still had an old wringer washer back in the seventies. My dad wouldn’t buy her a new model! The worst were the bed sheets…Washing was an all day event back then.
