Snuggies is now making its rounds in the media...First Ellen shows off her new Snuggies on her show in January, then Jay Leno on the Tonight Show. Now of all things, the crew of the Today Show on NBC?? Wow everyone’s getting in on the act! Has the world gone mad or maybe America hasn't had enough of their beloved Snuggie!
Snuggies Takes on Cult Like Status - Both the ads and the Snuggie have taken on cult status, ever since those commercials started blanketing the airwaves. Can you believe that over four million of them have been sold? Now there's around 300 YouTube parodies... my all time favorites are the Sham Snuggie and The Cult of Snuggie. Just scroll down the post a bit! They've even got Snuggie discussion groups on Facebook and Snuggie fan pages. OMG what next?
Snuggie on NBC - I was a little shocked to find even NBC getting in on the act too...Back in January, Matt Lauer says he wouldn’t be caught dead in a Snuggie. The crew gives him a hard time in the video as he sits there all wrapped up in a bright blue Snuggie. How flattering that [tags]Snuggie[/tags] looks on him! You couldn't miss Meredith sitting right next to him in a red one. Recording it all was the TODAY stage crew also draped in Snuggies, looking a bit like a gospel choir there.
You Can Send Your Snuggie Pics in to NBC - I got a kick out of this...you can even send in your pics and videos to NBC and they'll post them in their massive collection!
Late Night Comics Having Fun With the Snuggie - The late-night comics are having a ball with it too. Just before the TODAY crew donned their Snuggies, a report on the California octuplets filed by NBC News included a clip of Jay Leno joking that no one knew the babies’ mother was pregnant – “she was wearing a Snuggie.”
Snuggies is Now the Toasty Wrap? Give Me a Break! - I came across another Snuggie type product on Youtube called the Toasty Wrap at ToastyWrap.com. I thought oh it's another Snuggie parody but it's the exact same infomercial as the GetSnuggie.com one but with a different narrator! The only difference between the Toasty Wrap (another ridiculous name) and the Snuggie are the way they're marketing it. I think it's the same company as the Snuggie. They are trying a different marketing technique and getting Montel Williams endorsement on it at his site MontelWilliams.com. I really can't see how a Snuggie fits in with Montel's products though. Since Snuggie had such a bad start on selling their product at Christmas maybe they're trying to start over.
Maybe we'll get to see the Toasty Wrap running all year now...Ok that's enough Snuggie humor to last us a lifetime! BTW, here's some more infomercial humor, good for a few laughs!
