December 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

Gift wrapping shouldn’t be an after thought!  We take so much time and care in selecting that perfect gift. It’s kind of funny how most of us don’t think twice about the packaging!  Want to give your gift wrapping a little bit more pizazz this year? Why use the same old standard wrapping paper and ribbon?

It’s actually very inexpensive and so easy with these little hints from Bruce Littlefield a design and lifestyle guru! Here’s a cool little video on some really neat advice on some neat gift wrapping techniques. Sorry that the video is so small…just go ahead and enlarge it.

Five Gift Wrapping Ideas

You can add little personalized touches to make your gift extra special! Here are some different ideas to try.  Just try to think beyond traditional holiday standard gift wrapping. We always go for the curling ribbon, the standard green/white/red pre-made bows and wrapping paper. This kind of gets getting a little boring year after year.

1. Think of using fabric ribbon, craft paper and bows made out of unique and unusual materials.

2. Tailor the wrapping to each individual loved one by spending a little extra time and effort thinking about the person receiving the gift.

3. Here’s a really neat idea the “double gift”.

  • Use the scarf for Mom as the ribbon, tied in a bow.
  • You can use a tie that you’re going to give to Dad as the ribbon on a gift package.
  • Adding an ornament to a gift package looks really neat. Now the recipient has a gift and something for their tree.

4.Try labeling gifts with unique name tags. Here’s some ideas. Use the following…

  • Old freight tags
  • Shipping tags from your local stationery supply store.
  • Recycled holiday cards.  If you are using old cards, all you need to do is punch a hole in the upper left corner. Then use a colorful ribbon to attach it to your gift wrap.

5. Unusual shaped gifts can use unusual wraps. Instead of a traditional cloth bag to wrap a bottle of wine use a hand puppet.

Where do you find these interesting do-dads for your gift wrapping? While your finishing up your gift shopping, Bruce suggests checking out craft supply stores, flea markets and dollar stores.

Gift wrapping is pretty fun if you ask me. Think of how your cool gift wrapped packages can be the next conversation starter at this season’s holiday party.
